Bringing Solutions Home
In the spirit of community, love, and collaboration Her Resilience & Rock Paper Scissors Collective join together for a dynamic event to celebrate expression, resilience, and Oakland's cultural capacity of creation from passion.
4pm - Street Styles Art Shop & fashion show on Broadway:
There is no other place in the Town you can feel a pulse of hot, young, driven, entrepreneurial culture and design. Partnered with the youth will be mentors and teachers that create alongside the dynamic youth. Portions of proceeds benefit RPSC youth program, Oakland youth designers directly, and mentors and teachers in Oakland. Local collaborators for fashion show include: Show & Tell, Jeaja Design, Solespace, Maryweather, Viscera, MetWest High School, and more!
6pm - Her Resilience Artist Talk:
Her Resilience invites you to reflect on your public, outward facing roles in your own communities, and what you can do to bring healing, change and hope into your private realm. Through 2015 these unique pieces sparked many conversations surrounding community violence and our roles in dismantling societal ills. At the Flight Deck with little room to 'look the other way' we hope that you will take the opportunity to engage intimately with the meaning behind the work.
Artist Talk presented by Joanne Ludwig who is an Oakland based Visual Artist & AFRO DEEP Curator/Culture Advocate ~ "I make relics and things to tame a wild spirit by mixing ash, lead and magic onto canvas, paper and wood." Learn more about what went into her unique piece and why Joanne decided to create for the cause and thus support the efforts of Her Resilience.
