The Akonadi Foundation - SPONSOR "All of our work at the Akonadi Foundation is guided by our vision for a racially just society. We dream of a day when all people, including youth and adults of color, enjoy the right to self-determination. When all peoples are respected and all cultures celebrated. When every community is safe, healthy and sustainable. A day when everyone has an opportunity to thrive. In service of this vision, we have adopted a simple but ambitious mission: to support the development of a powerful social change movement to eliminate structural racism and create a racially just society. "
Phase One of our project would not have been possible without a generous grant from Akonadi. We thank them for all that they do for our community.
Mamacitas Cafe "Mamacitas Cafe is an initiative that both celebrates the exciting growth in Oakland and addresses the tremendous struggle that still remains. Oakland is on the international radar, being named one of the top 5 places to visit in the world by the New York Times in 2012 but, in the last three years child poverty has increased. Mamacitas Cafe was founded by Directors Renee Geesler and Shana Lancaster who are fierce advocates of Oakland and believe in creating jobs that cultivate long term economic possibilities for the city’s young women. Mamacitas Cafe prioritizes the advancement of their employees through the ME Training Program which provides mentoring, leadership training, professional coaching and entrepreneurial skills."
Green Mary: Objective Zero Waste "Zero Waste to the Landfill is our mantra. Green-Mary leads the way, establishing new processes and creating a Green Economy for the people of the Bay Area. Her many workers extend their education arm to the public at festivals and civic events. Event waste was once shamefully hauled via truck to a landfill someplace in the desert. Green Mary leadership has established processes and municipal vigor for communities and festivals, pre-organizing waste and composting from events, parades, conferences and block parties, sorting and preventing vast tonnage from arriving at the local landfill."
We thank Green Mary for her support of the project and for her commitment to Zero Waste.
Park Community Garden "Park Garden is a cooperative food project that anyone can participate in. We do not currently operate on an individual plot-based model, but we are as free as it gets. Please join our Facebook group to learn more, and join us for our Sunday and Thursday work gatherings. The best way to find out what is going on is to dig in with us!"
